Puppet shows, face painting and biscuit-making were part of the fun-filled entertainment at the KidsTown Teddy Bears Picnic yesterday.
Hundreds of children brought their bears to the inaugural event, braving the chilly weather.
Acting co-ordinator Tracey Toy said the day was an entertaining and cost-effective way to get children out in the fresh air during the school holidays.
‘‘It’s something a little bit different that we haven’t done before — it’s good fun,’’ she said.
Noah Moore, 5, dressed as Superman for the event and brought along his ‘‘super dog’’ teddy for the day.
‘‘I love him because he can fly,’’ Noah said. ‘‘His name is Noah, like mine.’’
Bella Brunt, 7, had her face painted as a cat and said she loved her teddy because it was soft and kept her warm on cold nights.
The cloudy weather did not keep people away, with Ms Toy saying just because it was winter, this did not mean families could not enjoy themselves outdoors.
‘‘We’ve got everything based undercover just in case the weather does turn bad, we’ve got some shelter,’’ she said.
